Our season concludes with our Spring Concert of Dance: Rebuilding the Fractured Entanglement, a powerful evening length collaboration with WMU’s Virtual Imaging Technology Lab, also known as VITAL and costume designs by Maddie Nelson.

Since 2022, Wellspring Artistic Director Marisa Bianan and Technical Director Sam Snow have been developing the vision of exploring the profound connection between humanity and the planet, traveling environments from the depths of the sea to outer space. Kevin Abbott, Director of VITAL, has been essential to our process as we fuse dance with his cutting-edge technology.

MISSION

Wellspring exists to awaken wonder, artistry, and connection through movement

We create transformative dance experiences—on stage, in class, and in community—so people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds can reclaim dance as a source of expression, meaning, and belonging.

Ways We Live This Mission:

  • Creating daring, high-caliber performances that move hearts, bodies, and minds

  • Teaching dance as an art form and a human right, not a competition

  • Nurturing creative confidence in every student, from beginner to pre-professional

  • Holding space for healing, play, and purpose through inclusive programs and events

  • Advancing Kalamazoo as a vibrant hub for modern dance and expressive movement that reflect the complexity and beauty of being human

Dance That Moves You

We are working toward a world where dance belongs to everyone. Where bodies become instruments of wonder. Where movement is art, connection, and freedom. Where all people—regardless of age, ability, or background—see themselves as movers. And where our city pulses with life, creativity, and community through dance.
