This Floating World

A visual and audible feast. Wellspring's poetic athleticism intertwines vividly with the sensuous music of Blue Dahlia. A dreamlike fusion of modern dance and live music.

Now available for touring, This Floating World features original Wellspring choreography performed to a suite of live music composed specifically for the dance company by modern music quartet Blue Dahlia.

The dancers' bodies seem to pulse to the evocative music of Blue Dahlia, one of the Midwest's most unique groups. A label for this band? Some call it World Art Fusion; the Detroit Free Press calls it, "more adventurous than anyone else dares to be." Regardless of how you define it, Blue Dahlia's creative signature knows no bounds.

The innovative concert featuring choreography by Wellspring Artistic Director Cori Terry and Artistic Associate Michael Miller premiered in Spring 2002. The concert generated such excitement that two additional series were presented in Fall 2002 and Winter 2005. The collaboration has enjoyed rave reviews, sold-out audiences and is a popular aesthetic education selection by teachers for students of all ages.

This Floating World is a full-length concert featuring five dance works plus six musical interludes. Performances are available for evening or matinee engagements and can be tailored for particular audiences.
